Hi, I’m Joel. I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Advanced Schema Therapist. I work with people experiencing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, perfectionism, low mood, and patterns that can leave them feeling stuck or disconnected from the life they want.
Many of the people I meet have spent a long time overthinking, placing pressure on themselves, or trying to understand why the same difficulties keep showing up. You do not need to arrive at therapy knowing exactly what is wrong or what you want to work on. We can make sense of that together.
My approach is genuine, collaborative, and practical. I aim to create a space where you can speak openly, feel understood, and occasionally laugh, while still having honest conversations about what may need to change. Together, we will develop a shared understanding of your experiences and tailor therapy to your needs, goals, and feedback.
In sessions, we may explore both what is happening in your life now and the experiences or patterns that sit underneath it. This might involve mapping patterns together, developing practical strategies, using imagery or chair work to process emotions, or finding new ways to respond to difficult thoughts and feelings.
I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, with a particular focus on Schema Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
Alongside individual therapy, I provide supervision to psychologists and other mental health professionals. I am also the DBT Coordinator at Fremantle Hospital and have experience in teaching, training, and clinical supervision. My published research has focused on perfectionism, cognitive biases, and psychological wellbeing.
